Diwali Night is one of the biggest cultural shows on campus, with delicious Indian appetizers preceding a show featuring a variety of student groups, from fusion dances and a capella groups, to skits and traditional bharatanatyam. This year's theme will focus around the tradition of Diwali, and how the celebrations vary across the nation. It will be held on Saturday, November 7th at 7 p.m. You can get involved in the show in a number of ways:
Act - tryout to be in an act! No matter what the talent, or the skill, we're just looking for entertaining and interesting act groups to try out. Get some friends together and make up a dance, or perform spoken word, whatever your interest or passion, we want to see it. Please bring at least a 1 minute piece ready to perform.
Show Coordinator - Interested in being involved in show production? Do you want to meet a lot of people and help run Diwali Night? Show coordinators help choose which acts make it into the show, critique each act at every rehearsal and help behind the scenes. Show coords work with emcees on scripting and filming, run backstage during the actual show, and are integral to the show running smoothly.
Emcee - Emcees help make the show run smoothly with performed skits interspersed throughout the show. This year, we're not only looking for emcees with comedy in mind, but also emcees that can act. Don't be intimidated! We'll help you along the way, experience is nice, but not necessary, we're just looking for fun-loving, outgoing people. Please bring a 30 second - 1 minute skit to perform for the tryouts.
Anthems - We are looking for individuals or groups who want to sing either the Indian or American national anthem for the show. Be ready to sing the anthem that you would like to perform.
Tryouts for Show Coords and Emcees will be Thursday, September 17th from 7-10 p.m.
Tryouts for Acts and the national anthems will be Wednesday, September 23rd from 7-11 p.m.
Both tryouts will be held in Greg Hall 112.
Signup sheets will be posted outside of the ISA office beginning this Friday, September 4th! For any additional questions or concerns, please e-mail dsouza3@illinois.edu. :)
